Oktoberfest Edition

Oktoberfest Edition copy.jpg

A completely different format for this episode with a group of craft beer enthusiasts doing a blind taste test of five local Oktoberfest beers. Jesse educates on the differences between Märzen and Festbier, the style guidelines they should be looking for, and this history of the style that originated in Bavaria, Germany.

Features craft beer enthusiasts Jesse Alger (@algerbeerventures), Sean Spencer (@banksbrews), Blake Piipke (@blakepiipke), and Jason Ehrreich (@jasonsjourney.mn).

The group discusses the incredible differences despite the same basic ingredients. If you like descriptors like malty, toasted, caramel, biscuity, and bready – this podcast is for you.

The taste test ends with guesses on which beers are which as well as which beer was everyone's favorite. There is one winner shared by many. You'll have to listen to find out how the beers stack up.

Things close out with a tasting of two aged oak lagers from Modist brought by Jesse. A taste test preview of a future #lagercast!

Beers:
Schell's // Oktoberfest Märzen-Style Festbier
Indeed Brewing // Oktoberfest
Oliphant Brewing // Festbier
Bauhaus Brew Labs // Schwandtober Fest Bavarian-Style Märzen

Jesse brings with some lagers from Modist Brewing to wrap up the show!
