22. Jesse Hauf, Owner of 10k Brewing

Ep 22 Jesse 10k.jpg

Brady and Ryan make the trip to Anoka – the Halloween capital of the world – to visit Jesse Hauf, Owner of 10K Brewing. They discuss the origins of Jesse's passion for craft beer – when he was working on the road and visiting breweries across the country. That leads into his decision to bring craft beer to Minnesota, by quitting his job and opening a brewery.

Discussion ebbs from the initial buildout of the – then – smallest brewhouse in the state, to the Empire Room expansion, and beyond the walls to other ventures in Anoka. Along the way, the topic of beer quality pops up. Jesse mentions that he wasn't proud of the beer they started with but believes they've made the necessary improvements over time and is proud of the beers they are putting out today.

Nice beer, nice people. It's 10K's tagline and we talk about where it came from and what it means. After origins, the group ruminates on the future of 10K Brewing, from distribution, to food, and beyond. A hot topic is the hyper local focus and the sustainability of that model. Ryan wonders when the first seltzery in Minnesota will open.

COVID-19 comes up and the group discuss the changes necessitated by the lockdown, restrictions, and mandates. Jesse wants to do the right thing for his employees and his customers which shows in every decision they've made this year. We touch on the idea of unionization and Jesse shares his thoughts on this recent issue in the craft beer community.
